Position Summary

J Scott Builders is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Lead Carpenter to join our residential remodeling team. The Lead Carpenter is responsible for leading all aspects of day-to-day construction activities on residential remodeling projects while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, professionalism, safety, and customer service. 

This position requires a highly skilled carpenter with extensive experience in residential construction, including framing, structural modifications, dry rot repair, finish carpentry, cabinetry, trim installation, and general remodeling. The Lead Carpenter will oversee daily job site operations, coordinate work with project managers and subcontractors, ensure projects remain on schedule, and maintain exceptional quality throughout every phase of construction. 

As the primary on-site representative of J Scott Builders, the Lead Carpenter is expected to build strong relationships with homeowners by communicating project progress, answering questions, and providing an outstanding customer experience. This role also includes supervising and mentoring carpenters and laborers, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining a clean and safe job site, troubleshooting construction challenges, and ensuring all work meets company standards and client expectations. 

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated leader who possesses excellent communication and organizational skills, demonstrates sound decision-making, and takes pride in producing exceptional craftsmanship. Candidates must have their own professional-grade carpentry tools and the ability to work independently while representing J Scott Builders with integrity and professionalism.

Primary Responsibilities

Construction & Carpentry

  • Perform all phases of residential construction and remodeling. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications. 
  • Layout and construct framing for additions, remodels, decks, and structural modifications.
  • Perform dry rot repair and structural repairs. 
  • Install doors, windows, siding, trim, cabinetry, millwork, and finish carpentry. 
  • Complete punch list items and final project detailing. 
  • Troubleshoot construction challenges and recommend practical solutions. 
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship and attention to detail throughout every phase of construction.

Project Leadership

  • Lead daily job site operations. 
  • Plan work activities to maximize efficiency and productivity. 
  • Coordinate labor and scheduling with the Project Manager.
